Skiing - Dachstein-West - Gosau

During winter, Gosau valley is transformed into one of Austria’s best kept skiing secrets
The snow in the Dachstein-West region is plentiful all season, and is replenished regularly with fresh powder!

Gosau is the premier resort of the Salzkammergut skiing region, and serves Dachstein-West (900-1650m), with 33 modern lifts, 140 kms of prepared ski-runs of which, 7 kms is easy, 113 kms is Intermediate, and 7 kms is difficult. 70 kms in resort. 140 kms in the area, connections by free bus. One lift pass will service the whole area including Russbach and Annaberg, and the brand new gondola at Gosau Hinteral, at the top of the valley. The descents offer beautiful, quiet, unspoilt skiing and snowboarding, with 20 log cabins (alms) serving traditional food and drinks. 

Season: 1 December to 1 April 2013
This winter a Day Ticket is about €35 a day / €149 for 5 days. 

The Hornspitz Express chairlift, a two-stage lift, transports skiers and snowboarders up to the top of the mountain from where the whole Dachstein ski area is available to you, including runs back down to the valley bottom. 

At the base of the lift you will find equipment hire, lift pass kiosks and nursery slopes of varying length and difficulty. Wi-Fi is available at the ski lifts, in the Tourist Office, and in Go-Go Gosau at the top, so now you can easily keep in touch and send your photos back home!
 
Langlauf: In the valley there is also 45 kms of Cross Country skiing trails which are carefully maintained by state of the art equipment.

Our apartment is situated in sight of the ski lifts and slopes, (1 km away), with a free ski-bus to take you there and back in comfort, in minutes.
The hotel offers ample storage for both skis and boots. 

Driving in Austria in Winter: The local authorities keep the roads ploughed and gritted through winter. Drivers must fit special 'winter tyres' to all cars in the area from mid-November to mid-April. Hire cars have them fitted ready for use. A toll disc for your windscreen must be bought for motorway driving.

Skiing on the Zweiselalm above Sonnenalm

Local facilities: 2 Cable car lifts, ski equipment hire, ski tours, cross-country trails (langlau skies and boots can be hired, too), a toboggan run, horse-driven sleigh rides, curling, skating. Gosau's ski school offers group or private lessons for all types of skiing and snowboarding. There is also an indoor swimming pool with a sauna and solarium, with its spectacular view of the Gosaukamm through its large windows.

Super snow and piste conditions in 2012 enticed Marcel Hirscher to train in his homeland, in the Dachstein West ski region! Marcel  is the youngest overall winner of the World Cup! .

Not far away is the Krippenstein ski area on its high plateau (2,100m), featuring 30 kms of off-piste skiing and an exhilerating 11 kms downhill run.

Wide walking tracks in the snow are maintained throughout the valley allowing wonderful walking through the magnificent scenery. .
